Dr Martin Denby

BSc (Hons) MBChB DFFP MRCGP (UK) FRNZCGP

Martin was born in Surrey, England. He graduated from Southampton University in 1988 with a degree in Biochemistry and Nutrition. He then took a year off and travelled through India, Thailand, Indonesia, Fiji, Hawaii, Canada and Europe. On his return he studied at Birmingham University Medical School and graduated in 1994. He did his House Surgeon year in the UK and then came to New Zealand to work at Waikato Hospital for 3 years where he met his wife, Sarah Hart, who is also a doctor.

In 1998 he travelled back to the UK with Sarah and trained as a General Practitioner in Brighton on the Sussex coast. He gained the DFFP (Family Planning Diploma) in 1998, as well as the MRCGP (Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners) with merit in 1999.

He returned to live in New Zealand in 2000 and became a Fellow of the New Zealand College of General Practitioners in 2004. He is a director of Well for Life, a partner of Silverdale Medical. He is also the CME (Continuing Medical Education) Co-ordinator for Harbour Health PHO. Martin loves photography, music and art. He plays bass guitar and is a very keen windsurfer.

His special interests are: Wellness and preventive medicine, nutrition, heart disease, hypertension (blood pressure), hyperlipidaemia (cholesterol) and weight loss management.

Dr Warren Groarke

Warren undertook his medical and post graduate training in London, attaining a Diploma in Child Health in 1992 and MRCGP in 1993, before returning to Manchester where he worked as a GP in partnership for 10 years. He has a diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine and is a fellow of the Royal College of GPs (FRNZCGP) in New Zealand.

Whilst in the UK he developed an interest in Sports Medicine and health improvement through lifestyle change. He was the team doctor for Manchester City FC, England U18 Rugby, and was lead primary care physician at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester 2002.

He emigrated to New Zealand in 2002. He is married to Louise, who amongst many things is a writer, medical journalist and public health nurse. They have two pre-teenage boys, Sam and James who have settled well into NZ life. The boys are keen rugby players and musicians and are avid All Black supporters.

Whilst in New Zealand he has been the Tall Blacks doctor and is the doctor for the Auckland ANZ cup development team. Warren is also a partner at Silverdale Medical, a GP and accident clinic. Other roles include elected board member of Harbour Health PHO and chair of BestCare GP sustainability project.

Warren plays many sports including indoor and outdoor soccer during the winter, snowboards and skis, time permitting, and then falls off his surfboard regularly during the summer.

 

Kim Van Der Speck

Kim was born in Auckland. She graduated from the University of Auckland in 2004 with a degree and postgraduate diploma in Sport & Exercise Science. She then worked as a Fitness Instructor at West Wave Fitness centre in Henderson for two years until taking a full time position at Well for Life as an Exercise Physiologist.

In early 2008 she started a mobile personal training and massage company, VDS fitness with her husband Carl who is currently studying a Sport Coaching and Management degree at Unitec.

Kim has been involved in competitive running at a regional level for 12 years. She is a member of Bays Cougars Athletics Club.
